Hi ! Well so far it has been quite a year. As most of you know January 5th was the day that my life changed, WOW ! cancer, who would have thought it. I always assumed that story was for someone else but certainly not about me.
Welcome to my blog (I'm so excited I have a blog and I don't even know what it is).
I wanted a way to let the people that mean the most to me know what's going on with my journey this year without having to tell the story numerous times.
The journey started on January 5th, when I had a colonoscopy and was told that I had cancer. Two months later and after more tests than I can count. I start Chemotherapy and Radiation on March 2nd for 6 weeks with 6 weeks to recover then surgery and another 6 weeks to recover, then back to 6 weeks of Chemo and a little recovery then surgery again.
I plan to just take it one step at a time and to come out better and stronger (see my eagle story) than ever.
(Typing for Patty) I just finished week two of chemo and radiation. I’m so blessed to have been enrolled in a test program to take Chemo in pill form. It’s a very expensive pill, but it is free to people in this program. I was, however; very disappointed to find out my 2nd Chemo treatment after surgery was 6 months…not 6 weeks, but I’m dealing with it.
I really wanted to be there for all of you this year, because so many are going through so much. This time has made me understand how much we need each other and I have never felt so loved and treasured!
As I sat in the waiting room for radiation treatment, I looked around the room and was overwhelmed with sadness. I’d like to suggest, if you are going thru hard financial times, go sit in a cancer office for a while. I know God has brought us together to help each other thru these times. Asking for help is giving a gift. When Jerry and I moved to Portland 15 years ago, we were broke and American Express told us to leave home without them. Shortly after moving here I went to a ½ day presentation promoting a four day seminar in Seattle. Jerry had told me not to buy anything! I told the speaker that I’m going, but I don’t have any money. I showed up with $20 and no place to stay. I stood up in the front of 500 people and said “I need help and a place to stay”. I learned what a gift you give when you ask for help. Several people helped me and we became great friends. It also made them feel good about themselves. I also learned that it’s selfish not to ask for help. It really prepared me for this time when I need help. It’s been incredible…everyday I get a card or something in the mail. It’s very important to anyone sick or grieving to feel loved. So who can you cheer up today? Who can you give the gift to today, by asking for a little help. I know many of you have trouble asking for help. Just give it a try!
